I have been following the progress of the Kinect hacks for the past couple of weeks, the $2-3000 dollars has clearly been won now and we are starting to see some truly interesting real world applications for this cheap commerical IR tracking software.

Imagine if we could create a 360 data blast (rather than the mechanical movement of the robot) - this would create a 360 degree area map in real time!
