Microsoft unveiled a new immersive gaming concept, called 'IllumiRoom', at CES 2013.
This illumination addition to the traditional gaming screen, offers a bit of 'here and there' between the current viewing conventions and the "predicted" holographic viewing future.
I have always been skeptical on the whole holo / immersive digital environments as a visual alternative to traditional TV, especially in the next 5-8 years, I do however love this idea, I think physically this is not "too" difficult to produce and offers an interesting and unique perspective to the standard viewing solutions.
It reminds me a little of the Phillips experiments with a row of LED's projecting a light colour bleed on the wall behind the TV to generate a sense of peripheral vision to the TV.
