INFOGRAPHIC - app revenue between 2010 - 2011

Well, the figures are not looking great for the "99p" app this year! It seems Distimo have reported that the glory days of generating a standalone game or utility are through with a push to the more developed and supported "freemium" or in-app purchase app model. Ad supported revenue seems to be on the up, however I fear with the European economy in the state its in now, this will not yield the kind of revenue we were used to hearing around in the past 2-3 years.

RIP Steve Jobs - you will be missed

I would not say I was ever an Apple fanboy, but you can't help but feel pure admiration for a man who has shaped the Digital industry in such a meaningful way, Steve has been hugely influential in both the innovation and development of both the hardware and software industry as we know it today, as well as his mobile and lifestyle technological advancements. Steve, was the primary target, focussed heavily on pushing through the development of the mac, as well as the iPod, iPhone, and IPad.

We also would be remiss to mention the effect he had on our industry, his work helping to shape Pixar, has inspired countless 3d artists both new and old to get into the industry, as well as a huge increase in the production and popularity of animated shorts as well as their feature films.

Steve, you were an inspiration to us all, you shall be remembered.

Autodesk 123_sculpt

This is a great start for this kind of app, We have seen a couple of these released before now, however most were practically unusable in their current state. This however, seems to be the start of the potentially workable solution; Ok, you cant export anything you do, and the options and import settings are non-existent, but I think this is just the start for this app - the sculpting works, and could be usable in the future, perhaps the app could be used as a texturing system only, or perhaps a refinement tool to existing models. Either way, I dont think we are looking at a viable production tool, but, it could be the start of something nice?

Oh and its free!
