Live Action Cinematic Game trailers

There has been a huge collection of Live Action trailers in recent years, probably due to the increased market traction of video games within mainstream consumer spending.

These trailers have ranged from short 1 minute blasts filmed entirely on green screen and crudely shaped using VFX into a plausible storyline to the 20 min epic films released, simply to generate buzz around the latest Ghost Recon.

The Forty Story by Pentagram

A great little piece, an original visual with a fantastic VO and script. What an original way of celebrating a companies 40th anniversary. Created by Pentagram is a large independent design consultancy.
The story of a boy born on the day Pentagram opened and how his life has been tracked (and kerned) by forty years of Pentagram design.

MTV Summer by MIRARI & CO.

It's extremely cold outside, lets think warmer with this smooth summery spot for MTV.

Produced by Mirari & Co

I love the colour grade on this!

I think its also worth posting their 2012 Reel here too, a good use of colour and visual simplicity throughout.

Would'nt it be cool - Nissan by Framestore

This is a beautiful collection of breakdowns uploaded by Tim Borgmann, from his work with Framestore NY in creating these wonderful series of adverts for Nissan.

This fluid and particle effect has a real character and originality (which I'm sure will be repeated to death over the coming year). I love the shear detail in every movement and the lighting and DOF is just fantastic.

I must admit, I had not hear of Tim before seeing this, however I do remember seeing his 2010 reel which had some of his early particle work in it, reminisent of some early R&D of this style.

I think for me, the breakdowns are often vastly more interesting than the actual output to the client, but I think this is one of the rare occasions where I think the breakdowns are more interesting to everyone than the final outputs to Nissan, the breakdowns show this work as what it is, Art.

A Beautiful GE commerical from ACNE

ACNE and TBWA have come together to create this latest advert for GE.

A beautiful example of paper animation done well! This piece travels through time and multiple environments tied together with a singular walking man.

The Gift of Togetherness - Mc Donalds Charity

This is a pretty AO 3d animation, I love the use of pace and fluidity throughout the advert, and the symbolic use of light and movement really brings the piece to life.

Created by Thornberg & Forester  A good digital agency out of LA.

Pretty, but emotional.

Buyral - Professional Clicking

This Comedy Commercial spoof, for Buyral shows the positive ridiculousness of viral marketing and the attempt to control, market and quantify these phenomenon.

This spoof is actually really well done, followed up with a spoof site and spoof shopping carts! This really is commitment to the 'bit'.

We are Aescripts + Aeplugins

This is a really beautiful example of care, attention and desire. This piece for aescripts.com was created by Ariel Costa and has a real sense of "fun" about it. Its all too common in our industry to jump onto trends and styles when faced with an individual project such as this, but this piece holds its own amongst the sea of other animated infographics and mograph instructional videos.

Well played Ariel!

City of Possibilities - Norfolk Southern by The Mill

WOW, what a fantastic LIVE/CGI collaboration by The Mill on this monster of a spot! The shear amount of content in this spot would have been a mammoth task to produce. Congratulations on creating such a massive world but at teh same time making it feel cosy and cute. I kind of reminds me of the

Cadbury Olympic Idents - by Piranha Bar

These are lovely, I love the simple fluidity of the movement, indicative of the actions driven the particle streams. The colours are perfect!

HOTPOINT Land of heat by Platige Image

What a beautiful way of displaying this world of food. Its a landscape of edible delights designed to tease the taste buds into cooking.

This is an extremely well executed production with ALL elements actually CG. Be sure to watch the making of after the break to really see the detail in these assets which make this project truly "post" worthy!

Almost makes me wish they had not bothered with the "waves of heat" in the first place.

Red Cross Mexico by Not to Scale

Beautiful piece from Not To Scale, pushing the funny 'bone' :) of a serious subject for the Red Cross on Organ Donation. I like the playful and childish style in this piece, it helps deliver the message in a light hearted and comedic manner.

MTV - World Design Studio by BUCK

A piece designed in collaboration with MTV International, this action-packed look into the plight of the modern teen, exploring digital and social interaction between each other, developed by Buck.

TRAILER - Iron Sky (sneek peek)

Watch the first 4 minutes of the epic comedy due for release in April 2012. The film is about an Earth invasion by space Nazis. The clip shows American astronauts landing their space shuttle on the moon, soon they discover they're not alone and in danger of an attack by ruthless space Nazis.

This has landed here due to the low budget, high quality of production of this piece.

Blind Spot Pictures and Energia Productions have been working on this for approximately 4 years.

3D Studio Max - Sneek Peeks

Well, there have been a number of these snippet, little, cheeky videos released over the pass few months, all from different people and with an odd variety subjects and video quality - so, with a marketing man's head on I'm not sure what is going on. Are these attempts at viral intrigue, or releases fro people within Autodesk HQ, or what....

But...With a 3D Artists' head on, wow! I think, at least I hope that some or all of these little 'sneek peeks' make it into the final build version (either 2013 or 2014), because some of these are fantastic!

The Guardian - Three Little Pigs

A really interesting piece detailing the now prevalent use of social media and user generated content to influence the news stories themselves.

"Playing on recent uprisings aided by the prevalence of social media (e.g. Arab Spring, Occupy movements), BBH London, Director Ringan Ledwidge & The Mill help The Guardian extend the message of their transmutation from a carbon to digital-based, open-platform, crowd-sourced journal in this smart reinvention of the classic fairy tale" from Motionographer

I thought this was a really original and thought provoking piece, I cant tell you the amount of times i have had to generate content to explain to clients how important the socila side of any campaign can be, it seems the Guardian and gone one or too better! With style, originality and professionalism.

Coco-pops dogfight by Platige Image

I saw this the other day on TV, and ordinarily I would'nt give a second look to these sort of adverts, the animation is clean and function, and the quality is always resonably good, but the content. the script and the story are often lacking, and no amount of visual gold and rescue that fact. That is until I saw the latest Coco-pops advert. I don't mean all of it, again the style is good, the animation is good, the story is hmm there.... but the dogfight looked ace! That really perked me up when I saw that section of the ad. The fluid movement from the camera and action focus really drew me in!
